Do radiators rust?

All metal, when exposed to moisture, is vulnerable to rust. However, there are certain procedures/measures we take to ensure that this doesn't happen. Read more below.

Rust is formed when iron, or a metallic alloy containing iron, such as steel, is exposed to both oxygen and moisture for a long period of time, for example in wet environments.

In wet environments, Contour recommends LST radiators that are made from magnelis. This is a form of steel which has undergone an additional treatment stage, similar to hot-dipped galvanising.

This process makes the material stronger and more resistant to rust and corrosion.

Magnelis is suitable for both standard environments and in spaces where anti-ligature solutions are required which makes it suitable for bathrooms in the mental health sector or other places where personal safety is a primary concern.
